ABYS continues its support of field development and youth athletics in Acton and Boxborough. All of this costs a great deal of money, and we are very grateful that many of you have chosen to support these endeavors through a tax-deductible donation to our field development fund. As many of you know, we invested approximately $125,000 over recent years in drilling wells and irrigating the Concord Road, North Acton Recreation Area [NARA], and Flerra Meadows fields as well as installing both large and patch areas of turf to repair where and as necessary. This year we have installed an irrigation system at the new Liberty Field [formerly the Hetz property] in Boxborough to the tune of $50,000. ABYS also is involved in supporting a regular field aeration and fertilization program at all the fields that we utilize. There continue to be bumps in the road in getting good turf at NARA, but we are working with the Acton
Recreation department to grow good fields there, over time.
Additionally, our efforts to locate and promote the acquisition of future spaces for soccer in Acton and Boxboro will continue. In the meantime, we intend to continue to assist in the development and maintenance of fields in both Acton and Boxboro. Over the long term, pushing these projects to completion is vital to the future generations of soccer players of Acton and Boxborough. If you wish to contribute to this effort in a direct way, please consider donating to the field development fund on your registration form.
