ABRHS Ball Chasers

This Fall ABYS has been invited to provide Ball Chasers to the High school Soccer games.  The ABYS players that did it last year thought it was a lot of fun.  Sign up now for your team to be the chasers at a game.  Ball Chasers get to meet the players, retrieve balls that go out of play, and watch the best soccer in town.

To sign up your team for a game send email to gary_rose@comcast.net with the dates for which you can help.  Coaches do not need to attend, but it is helpful to have at least one parent who knows the players names and can help organize them around the field.

What a Ball Chaser does:

The chasers should first give the ball they have to the player, and then chase the ball that went out of bounds.  The chasers that are down the middle line between the two fields need to be very careful when a ball goes from one field to the other, and not just run out into traffic of the other game.  These players are big and fast.

Before the Game

Please have your players see the coaches directly to get game balls.

The varsity and JV play side by side, with the Varsity being on the field closest to Hayward road.

Players 1,2 Get 2 game balls from the Varsity coach and position themselves at midfield on each side.

Players 3,4 Get 2 game balls from the Junior Varsity coach and position themselves at midfield of the JV game on each side.

Players 5,6 Position themselves at each end of the dividing line between the fields so they can watch for balls going over the endline on either game.

Players 7 & beyond fill in the other corners to the fields & have players 5,6 watch only one of the games.

Halftime

At halftime they can play a short game or shoot on one of the nets.
After the game

After the game they should return the balls to the coaches and shake the hands of the AB players.

The kids have all had a blast for the previous games, encourage them to introduce themselves to the players and tell them their positions.

Directions to fields

The fields are at the high school, out beyond where the old baseball field was.  You can park in front of the high school and walk out to the field.  The games starts at 4:00 and have 2x40 minute halves.  The games usually finish by 5:30pm.  The players should dress warm as there can be a cold wind out at the fields.  They should wear their Blue ABYS jersey over their sweatshirt or jacket.
